ABOUT MYSELF

Hello my name is John Kegel. I first understood the power of physical therapy and really fell in love with it in high school, after already years of informal massage therapy for achy friends and family members. I found that interactions with healthy people are simply more positive and vibrant.

I formally studied massage in New Jersey and California, in 2000 and 2004, respectively, to get my license and certification. But I have found that my most important training has been through constant practice and past experience. Over the years, I have developed advanced medical-based massage techniques and an ability to integrate an array of massage styles to suit individual needs.

Outside of my practice, dance and yoga have been important influences for helping me understand the kinetics of not just how my own body works, but also of those around me. I am constantly seeking of ways to better my practice. Today, I offer my humble knowledge to you and yours.

ABOUT MY PRACTICE

The emphasis of Primal Bodywork is to restore your body to its prime, so that you can perform at a physically optimal level on a daily basis. One of my goals is to first understand how your body works and then to share my knowledge of massage therapy so that we can work together to bring your body back to its optimal state.

Because everyone is unique, so are our bodies. For this reason, I do not believe that massage therapy should be a choreographed routine that disregards individual needs. Instead, I offer a tailored session that begins with an assessment of your body’s specific needs. Each minute of each session is then calibrated to that assessment and to what your body reveals to me.

I characterize my sessions as deep and effective, while simultaneously flowing and relaxing. It always involves communication between you and me so that I can better tailor my techniques to suit your preferences. While my sessions provide immediate pain relief, my goal is not a one-off, feel-good encounter. Rather, I help my clients seek long-term solutions and understand the sources of their pains so that they can also be important agents of change in their own bodies, outside of each session.
